I know I am long overdue for a posting. Here's what's been happening. A couple weeks ago, (my husband)
Tracy told me he wanted to go to the urgent care clinic (we don't really have a regular dr.) because of some issues with his toe. I knew it was bad because he hates to go to the doc. Well...it was. They said he had full blown diabetes and if they didn't do something for that toe, they were talking about amputation. YIKES!~ From that day, we've had so many dr. appts my head is spinning. I have gone to every single one of them with him because I wanted to help in any way I could. In the downtimes, I've been reading and doing research on what to feed a diabetic. His toe is on the mend and the blood sugar is still trying to be regulated through medicine and shots he has to give himself daily (ugh). It felt like a sucker punch to both of us but tracy looks at it as a good thing. Anyway...he's fine. we both are. and finally getting back to a somewhat normal life again.
I also haven't posted any journal pages because when I haven't been reading books I've been doodling in my daytimer which is a different type of journaling but something that doesn't feel like journaling. I may try to scan some pages in to show you what I am talking about.
The journal above is a sample I just made up for a workshop I will be teaching in Cleveland this july. when all the details are worked out, I'll post it here.
and I really, really am going to be doing more videos soon...there are so many I want to do now...but I need my camera guy and right now he just needs to focus on his health. we'll work on something over the holidays.
Oh my goodness! Did he know he had diabetes? I have diabetes and it's not fun...very complicated...I know that you will take care of him. Love and light,
ReplyDeleteRachel Crawford
Teesha, please give my best to Tracy. I am glad it was caught and that he didn't have to have his toe amputated. Our daughter is what they call borderline and takes oral Metphorin. I hope Tracy gets his blood sugar under control soon.
ReplyDeleteHi, I just started reading your blog since Pam G wrote so highly of you and I understand why! I surely hope your husband gets the D under control, runs in my dad's family...I just love your videos and haven't really started "journaling" as you are so adept at...so looking for the next one!
ReplyDeleteOh goodness Teesha! I hope that everything settles down for both of you soon. That is quite the shock to have. You two are so great and such a sweet couple-how nice that you have each other to work through this together. Good luck with getting everything worked out and adjusting. I'm sending you both healing and supportive thoughts!
ReplyDeleteWow!! OK tell Tracy that he must take care of himself. So glad that he decided to go to the doctor when he did, or you might be dealing with a whole lot more than just a toe. Sending you positive healing thoughts for Tracy. Sharon
ReplyDeleteTeesha, glad to hear that everything is going to be okay. Life sure does have a way of throwing us bumps, doesn't it:(
ReplyDeleteBeen there, done that, Teesha... my DH let signs go way too long, too - and fortunately, like Tracy, is doing MUCH better now. Good luck to both of you!
ReplyDeleteI saw on Ginny's site you're one of her teachers next summer - I hope to be there!
Thank God y'all caught it in time! Hope life continues to get on an even keel.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas,
Sandra
Your hubby is so lucky to have you with him during this trying time in his life. My best for a speedy recovery.~~~XXOO, Beth
ReplyDeleteWishing Tracy and you the very best. You're lucky to have each other to work through this together. I hope his toe heals quickly. kisses to you both.
ReplyDeleteMaintaining good health -- that is always the priority. Glad that you and Tracy went to the urgent care to find out...and quite the shock I'm sure. One thing about diabetes...it can be controlled with care, diet and meds when necessary. Quite the scare that's for sure!
ReplyDeleteWe've missed you, but since diabetes runs in both sides of the family (including blindness from it), I certainly know what you've been going through. Sending lots of healing thoughts your way. When Tracy's done with them, send them back this way. My wife's cancer of 5 years ago is showing signs of coming back. It's time to go visit Zettiland!
ReplyDeletewow! what a suprise! I am a diabetic also, as of February.
ReplyDeleteHe should visit the www.dlife.com website, that is where I learned so much.
Many prayers!
Teesha take care of yourselves your health is always your first priority.
ReplyDeleteOh Lordy! all God's chillen got trouble...sorry to hear you've been fighting a serious battle the past few days! I take back every curse word I threw in your direction when I looked and saw 'NO new posts, again, today!" Just kidding...thank heavens he went to clinic when he did!! Hang tough ...thinking of you both!!
ReplyDeletewow...so glad your husband is doing well...i'm sure it was very scary for both of you. wishing you both great health!
ReplyDeleteso glad things are getting better! read up about it all as much as you can...I find that even the drs. don't always understand how the diet needs to change. hope Tracy likes veggies & fruit! I recommend Diabetes magazine-good info. Best of luck and happy holidays! you will get through this together...
ReplyDeleteTeesha, please send my well-wishes to Tracy. It's very important that you went to all his medical appointments with him. Diabetes is such a family/lifesytle effecting condition, the more you know- the better you both will deal with it. Together you can make a big difference. Blessings to you both!
ReplyDelete-Portland Karla
What a shock Teesha ! But thankfully he will be on the mend when he has his sugar controlled. Glad you are both so positive about the condition ! Good luck to you both in the future.
ReplyDeleteOh Teesha, that sucks!!! I can imagine you were totally elsewhere with your mind than on your blog! But it's really great that videoman (hehe) has such a great companion to be there for him. It doesn't undo things, but it makes it more bearable!!!
ReplyDeleteWell, give him my best regards and wish him well for me. And the same to you. Take your time and don't worry 'bout us here. You've built up heaps of credit over the years and we'll all still be here when you're ready to get back!
~ Mandy
Oh! thank God your husband is fine now!
ReplyDeleteMy stepgrandmother hed diabetes and lost whole leg, so I know how serious it is...
I wish you and him a good health!
OMG! Sending good wishes for Tracy and for you, Teesha, that the diabetes gets under control soon and you can go back to your normal life!
ReplyDeleteOf course we want to see more videos when you're ready - but get Tracy (and you) sorted!
Best of wishes to you and your family over the festive holidays. It is very difficult when a loved one is injured or unwell. Merry Christmas.
ReplyDeleteYou have been missed...but glad to hear that everything seems to be under control now. Best wishes to you and Tracy!
ReplyDeleteSending healing vibes and many wishes for a wonderful Holiday and a New Year filled with good health. So happy to hear that Tracey is feeling better. Hugs, Terri
ReplyDeleteDear Teesha!
ReplyDeleteSo glad that you went to the Dr when you did!! Diabetic care has come light years ahead of what it used to be. It is all about the carbs and eating whole grains and monitoring yourself. My 8 yr old neice who lives in Africa was jut diagnosed with type 1 and she is doing famously- 4 shots a day and she does it all herself.. Do not dismay it will all sort out and you will settle in to a routine and Tracey will fell SOOOO much better!! Get him some Crocs or other very comfy shoes so there is no pressure on any of his toes!!
I adore your work and have not commented before. If you want to e-mail me off site feel free.
Big healthy hugs to you both .
Look on this a s a very postive thing - everyone needs a wake up call to care for themselves every once in awhile!!!!
Elizabeth
Oh my what a trip that was to the urgent care clinic - so thankful that your husband went. My heart is full of healing vibes being sent you way to help both of you through this journey in your life right now. You two take care!
ReplyDeleteHappy Holidays!
You're doing the right thing!
ReplyDeleteThere is LIFE after diabetes. I know that from very personal experience.
I learned to care about my health, and listen to my doc.
My bloodwork is now normal with oral meds only, good diet, and regular moving around, walking type exercise.
At first it scared me to death.
Now it's just something that gets dealt with automatically.
You'll get there too, and Tracy is lucky to have such support.
Eileen in NYC
(who'd love to take a class with you some day)
I'm so sorry to hear about Tracy but I am glad that you did catch it in time to save the toe. How scary. Wishing you both the best, Happy Holidays.
ReplyDeleteTeesha, you and Tracy are in my thoughts. I am sending you healing energy for health and peace of mind. Thank you for letting us know so that we may share our support for you. Love & hugs.
ReplyDeletePS I'd love to come to Cleveland for your class! Peace.
Vicki B in OP NY
i was blindsided with a diabetes diagnosis 2.5 years ago, and I can so relate to the whirlwind of dr appts, learning curves, etc. etc.
ReplyDeleteit does get better. it's a complex disease, and it can take a lot of research plus trial + error, but things will get manageable. keeping you in my thoughts + prayers. you are such an inspiration to me.
I was wondering what happened to you. I'm so glad that the diabetes was caught early enough to treat his toe. Changing your whole way of eating is not easy. I had to do this when we discovered my daughter was severely lactose intolerant and it is a huge change. However, it is doable and after a few months you won't remember what it is like to eat like before. Wake up calls are never fun... but not as bad as when you keep mindlessly hitting the snooze button! Take care of each other. <3
ReplyDeleteYour whole family should get their glucose levels checked. You may not want to think about it but you should all do it.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for you and Tracy, Teesha. Health (and toes!) are so much more important than videos and blog posts. Diaetes is part of my family, too, and I know it Can be made into another "good fight". Peace...
ReplyDeleteWhat a shock that must have been! Thank heavens you all went to Urgent Care when you did.
ReplyDeleteAll good thoughts to you and Tracy, I know that the two of you will be able to sort this out, best wishes to you both!
warm healing thoughts to you and tracy!
ReplyDeletePositive thoughts!
ReplyDeleteI might as well throw in my two cents - diet, weight reduction and exercise - key. Muscles consume glucose - more muscles = less circulating glucose:)
My best wishes to two very talented and generous people,
jo
I am sending my best to you both. It sounds scary, but you two are such a great team that I know you can manage this. As the caretaker, be sure to take as good care of yourself as I know you will of him. I sending you both lots of positive energy!
ReplyDeleteDebbie Lewis
Oh my gosh, I am happy to hear you are both on the mends. Take care of each other, warm hugs your way.
ReplyDeleteTara
Sending love and prayers to you and Tracy. This is one of those times when life isn't fair. xo
ReplyDeleteYou can do this, you will feel much better. Have been "D" for 20yrs. now. Give your entire family the gift of being checked out...hereditary! The worst thing for an artist to loose is their eyesight, I know, I am starting to loose mine. Diabetis is a three legged stool, meds, diet and excercise. Without one or two of these the stool falls down. The diabetic regime is what all should follow in life, it will be easiest for your family to all do it and thrive! Love and peace to you all.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear your husband is doing better. I look forward to your videos. You have truly inspired me!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes to you both. Glad he acted in time and is on the road to controlling the diabetes.
ReplyDeleteOh my...Tracy sounds like me and my DH...we don't like all the fuss over going to the doctors and when there really something wrong and we know it...then we go. Good to hear that he is doing better and that things were caught before they got out of hand. Wishing you both a wonderful Christmas :}
ReplyDeleteI am glad that everyone is starting to fall into place! My prayers are with all of you!
ReplyDeleteMy friend in his mid-40s, fainted one day. He also has diabetes, first one in his family. His worst change in his diet is not being able to drink beer. He doesn't like the diet too much, but he doesn't want to keep fainting either.
Good luck.
Oh no - I was just about to email because I was worried about you two!!! Thanks so much for posting!!! Sending your whole family lots of love!!!
ReplyDeleteHow scary, please take care. My best wishes are with both of you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a shock that visit resulted in! But I'm so glad you discovered it and will take care of it-left untreated it would have been awful. My thoughts are with you. Lorrie of the Airstream.
ReplyDeleteOnce you figure out what you have to do it gets easier. I'll be happy to share titles that helped me. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteKathy Kenney
Well, I definitely knew something was wrong. I was actually concerned because I know you don't go so long without a post. I'm glad Tracy is getting his treatment and it was caught in time. I will pray for his recovery. You have surely been missed around here. Take care and waiting anxiously for your next post.
ReplyDeleteTeesha, This is a time to focus on the greater gifts in life. Enjoy your Holidays and your family. So happy all is well and everything was caught in time. The new year is a perfect time to clear the air and set a new path. Best of luck with all the new adjustments.
ReplyDeleteWe will all be here ready and waiting when you get back to us.
all the best.
Oh Teesha and Tracy -- I wish you both the best (and hope Tracy heal quickly). Take care and happy holidays to you and your family.
ReplyDeleteOMG! But thankfully Tracy got help before having anything amputated...my heartfelt wishes to both of you! I so appreciate your art, and the videos are just wonderful! Thank you for sharing so much! Have a blessed Christmas, and a happy and healthy New Year! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh...please give Tracy my best! Hugs to you both.
ReplyDeleteDeb
Wow...I'm speachless. Thank you all for the comments and advice and wellwishes. It really means alot to me that you would care enough to comment. I am doing alot better now...and it actually is a very good thing. haha...i needed the wake-up call and I like the new plan for life my body has dictated to me. I definately wouldn't be able to do it without Teesha...but I really wouldn't be able to exist without her anyway, so that's nothing new. ;) Thanks again...tracy
ReplyDeleteIt is the beginning of a new perspective on life. My Mom had D and she just started doing what needed to be done. She was good at that and gave that to me. Hope you enjoy the changes as much as you can. I wanted to THANK YOU for the drawing tutorial I have made a doll and some angel ornaments for Christmas presents and your tips for drawing faces has been a blessing. Please get better soon and share your wonderful ways.
ReplyDeleteDiane
I am a new viewer to your blog and am loving it. I love the videos, too. So sorry to hear about Tracy, however, the changes you both need to make are an excellent way to get back to great health.
ReplyDeleteAre you planning any workshops in Tempe, AZ? I've missed your previous workshops but now have the time to attend. I love 175 miles from Tempe.
I am so glad he decided to go to the doctor. What awful news, but thankfully he has you and you have each other, so I know it will all be ok in the end. My very sincerest best wishes for his recovery, and bless you both!
ReplyDeleteJane
I hope Tracy's feels better soon. I have Type 2 diabetes so if you need a shoulder to rant on I'm here. Once he gets used to the meds and new diet he will feel a lot better.
ReplyDeleteMy love and prayers go out to Tracy and you. Take care of your health first. Don't worry about the videos or anything else.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes from a blog reader & fan.
ReplyDeleteI hope Tracy can manage the diabetes and that you have the strength to take care of him.
You two should take care of yourselves and each other first and let everything else -- e v e r y t h i n g e l s e -- go. Just hug each other and let everything else GO.
ReplyDeleteMUCH love to you, dear artists.
from, a fan
So sorry to hear about your husband, my husband has had diabetes for 33 years. I feel for you both, but you can deal with it. There is hope.
ReplyDeleteTeesha, I just learned of you and your art from ATCforall.com where I am a new member. I've visited your website and found myself here. I send you and your husband best wishes. I also wanted to pass along that my father knew about a series of books called Reversing Heart Disease and Reversing Diabetes by Dr. Julian Whittaker. He also has a newsletter, my dad no longer is a fan of his, for political reasons, but the book may be of help.
ReplyDeleteGail
Glad he went to urgent care. I love those " doc in the box " places.I am glad that Tracy has you as his advocate! Take care and have a great holidays! ( I am the bead & yarn store in PT )
ReplyDeleteTake care of hubby... and we will all be patiently waiting when he is well and you return. Merry Christmas!! and I hope he feels better soon.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear about Tracy. I am an insulin dependent diabetic as well and it can be an adjustment. It does get easier. Good luck to you both.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear about Tracy. I am an insulin dependent diabetic as well and it can be an adjustment. It does get easier. Good luck to you both.
ReplyDeletesending healing thoughts and prayers. hope all is well soon!
ReplyDeleteGlad you all caught this before it got worse! Hope Tracy is better and the craziness slows down.
ReplyDeleteGlad it was discovered - better due to a toe than a full blown diabetic coma. I have had several friends of our age (you and are of similar ages as we have discussed at Carson Convention) diagnosed. It's a challenge, but I'm sure you both will conquer it. Good thoughts and wishes to you both...
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about Tracey's diabetes, but glad he is on the mend. My diabetic friend once recommended a book that is wonderful: Sweet and Sugar Free by Karen Barkie. Hope you can find a copy. It really helps in the sweet tooth area. Best wishes to Tracey.
ReplyDeletewhat a scary shock! sending love to you both as find your balance again. xoxo
ReplyDeleteHi Teesha - this is Pam from Mpls. relating to Tracy being diagnosed with diabetes. My husband is type 1
ReplyDeleteand would be happy to talk with you and Tracy if such
support is needed. He has been a diabetic since age 12, he is 59 now and so has lived with the highs and lows, literally with his blood sugar and figuratively for a long time.
I am sorry you two have been hit with it as well.
Please get in touch if you'd like a chat.
Pam (from Mpls.)
Teesha and Tracy,
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts with you both!! That is a hard disease to get under control but I know you are both there for each other and the outcome will be positive!
Happy thoughts your way,
Andra
Oh Teesha, I'm glad Tracy is on the mend! What a shock that must have been. I wish you both Ease and Peace!
ReplyDeleteI hope Tracy will be able to get his blood sugar in check so he won't have to take medication the rest of his life.
ReplyDeleteI have several friends that have diabetes that WERE on medication but with diet (and they exercised) they were able to get off of it. So THERE! I'm believing and am putting it out in the universe now that this diabetes thing with Tracy will be DONE! *smiles*
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you both. And thank you again for all of those wonderful videos you shared with us!!
Best wishes for your husbands quick recovery. I'm sure you will learn all about diabetes and take great care of him. Thank you so much for all you share on your blog. I love both yours and Tracy's styles. Your videos inspired me to journal all through November. My wishes for your happy creations...(and since it's Christmas can I also wish that you come give a class in Germany when good health is restored? I will bring pretzels) tj at studio mailbox
ReplyDeleteSo glad that you both have taken this on with such a positive attitude! Blessings to you both.
ReplyDeleteI know you love to cook so thought I'd pass this on - PCC has a cooking class in Jan that appears to have been created just for you - http://www.pccnaturalmarkets.com/pcccooks/classes/detail.php?id=1085. In the past they've had a great class on cooking with sugar substitutes too (i.e. things that don't affect blood sugar levels, or as much).
