So, the woman behind these PanPastels emailed me after stumbling across my video where I used them. Come to find out, her company is just her and her husband who do it all. I was thrilled because I love to support smaller, non corporate companies. I really think their product is cool and am excited to use them more in my paintings and other ways. Anyway...each color comes in a tint and a shade and a regular. After I had bought 2 or 3 singly, I purchased the whole set of "shade" colors and really like them best for what I do in my journal. I really haven't found much use for the lighter colors, but am sure I will one of these days.

This used to be, hands down, my favorite journaling medium. Caran D'ache neocolor II's. They are water soluble but I never use water with them (don't want to curl the edges of my collage). I love the look of a good artist crayon and they go over everything! I actually discovered the copic markers when I was looking for a pen that could go over crayons...and the sketch markers do so beautifully. You would not want to use a fine line pen over the crayons, but they have a charm and an energy that does wonders for a page.

our waxed polyester thread we sell at
www.teeshamoore.com. One spool will last you a lifetime probably. However...any waxed thread or cording would work for bookbinding. this is just the best and it is a pleasure making art when you have good materials. These are my 2 favorite colors!
I've had those pan pastels on my wish list for such a long time, ever since I heard about them online, but they are hard to find in Canada.
ReplyDeleteThe photo you show is so tempting though, lol!
Would it be strange to admit that images of art supplies excite me, lol?
i agree. over the years, of all the materials i've used to make my journal, i am a HUGE fan of this thread. i only use this now.
ReplyDeleteThat's so fun about the people who make the pastels. I love to support people like that too. Neato. Thanks for these great pics.
ReplyDeleteLove that info about the people behind the pan pastels. I've been quietly wishing to try them for awhile now and will definitely add them to my wishlist now. That list is so darn long already haha
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your opinions and fave products!
Goodness gracious, you are like an encyclopedia of information lately, and I can barely keep up!
ReplyDeleteI went to Blick Art after work today and got the paper, the Tombow adhesive, a few Copic markers (luckily the right ones), but I baffled a couple of employees when I kept trying to explain what Pan Pastels were. They had no clue.
I guess I'll get them directly form the people who make them.
Your photos of materials are like art supply porn!
P.S. Where did you get your Pan Pastels?
ReplyDeleteThanks for listing the products you use. I was curious about the crayons and could not make out what you called them in the video.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your wonderful videos and the follow up posts detailing what you use. Those pan pastels look very tempting and I am happy to see that they are available in the UK. I love the Caran D'ache neocolor II crayons too, at the moment I like gently wiping over white gesso to leave a blended chalky effect.
ReplyDeleteI've ordered some of this thread from you -- given that some things are hard to find in Canada, when I find a supply of something highly recommended I know I have to go for it.
ReplyDeleteAfter bemoaning the discontinued sharpies for 6 months I just found them at TWO stores including the big M - I think Sharpie (Sanford) may have reconsidered.
ReplyDeleteI'll buy the pan pastels if you will tell us where!
Thanks for sharing freely. Love.
Lori, did you find the extra fine tip or the fine tip. I have found the latter at Pearl in San Francisco and online, but not the extra fine tip anymore.

I just wanted to say I have really loved your videos as well . You make it seem effortless and you are inspiring. Thanks for the art information as well . I am lucky to have alot of copic sketch markers and some of the other supplies. I do not however as of yet have the panpastels but I plan too:) Thank you for taking the time to teach.
ReplyDeleteI just saw these pastels in the current Paper & Ink Arts catalog. Timely post becuase I wondered about how they would work for journaling and stamping.
ReplyDeleteI just ordered these pan pastels on artsupplywarehouse.com. If you are a first-time customer, use this coupon code: ac26e2 to receive $10 off your order. I ordered the set of 5 colors (including the sponges) and it cost just over $14 including shipping! Most of the sites are selling these for over $20.
ReplyDeleteI love PanPastels and Bernadette is very helpful! I mixed them up with some other mediums in an upcoming article for Stampington. Very cool product and worth every penny! I'm hoping they come out with a travel set, like a little watercolor type case, wouldn't that be cool?
ReplyDeleteI saw the PanPastels on your video and right away started looking for them. Luckily, our locally owned art store carries them and I bought 6 colors to start. They are so creamy and such a pleasure to work with. I also like to support small businesses when ever I can. Thanks for sharing your work!
ReplyDeleteEmie
Thanks for doing all the videos...it's very generous of you to share your time as well as the process of how you do your pages. I ordered some of your thread for book binding in teal...can't wait to get it.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Mary
I had never heard of Pan Pastels until watching your videos and immediately (and quite impusively), I ordered a set of the basic brights...I LOVE THEM! They are so creamy and just spread on the page like butta with color that is so beautiful and smooth. Love 'em...so thanks so much for cluing me in about them. Glad to know my purchase supports a good ol' Mom & Pop.
ReplyDeleteNow, I have Copic markers on order. I bought a few singles to see if I liked them and I adore them. They write/sketch so well, in ways that no other markers do.
I think my husband is mad at you, though...he said you're feeding my art supply addiction with all your suggestions. LOL
Peace & Love,
~Barb~
