Still haven't found my camera...but cruising around the photos I've downloaded onto my computer I found a shot of my alphabet tray. Since the nights are long now, I thought you might be interested it making one yourself. Basically I bought a multicompartment tray and as you can see, I labeled each space with a letter. Then I go through my magazines while watching tv and cut out letters and plop them into their compartments so when I journal and want to write out words, I have a plethora of odd letters to choose from. It might be considered a little obsessive compulsive but it is a relaxing activity that certainly makes me happy when I am journaling. Here's an example (this is a really old journal page...)
Great idea - will give it a try - thanks
ReplyDeleteVron xx
what a cool idea! i don't think it's obsessive compulsive at all, but then again maybe i'm a bit obsessive compulsive myself...
ReplyDeletei love that book, btw, the re-enchantment of everyday life, by thomas moore--have you read it? or was the journal page completely unrelated?
What an AWESOME idea....I totally love it! Thank for sharing...i'm gonna buy me a bin today
ReplyDeleteSo clever. I can see myself doing that. That is if I can stop cutting out all the hands.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip!! A great idea!!!Love the spread!!
ReplyDeleteNice Art!
ReplyDeleteThis is a good idea. As I am an art teacher as well as an artist, I know that organization makes most jobs easier.
Hello Teesha...Finally I have a way to speak to you. I love the blog!!! i have been following your work for several years. I first saw it in a book I have about journaling by Jason Thompson. I live in Helena, Montana. I've always wanted to go to Art Fest. I'm dying to get to one of your workshops, at least. So glad you are blogging. I'm gonna link yours to mine!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that you exsist. My brain seems to work completely opposite of yours. So much of what you do strikes me like a lightning bolt. I look at your journal pages and think - Holy Crap! How is it that she always has a magazine at hand with the perfect letter?! I visualize you sort of magically plucking the perfect magazine of the shelf, opening to the perfect page and snipping out the perfect letter. But, really, you *do it ahead*! Brilliant! And only magical in a metaphorical sense. Ah!
ReplyDeleteOH! Sharon...thanks for the idea of "hands"! Why not do another tray with certain things we use alot...hands, feet, faces, pink bits, blue bits, orange bits, things that are round, striped bits, pieces with text on them...Now you got me inspired! Thanks!!!
ReplyDeleteand to square peg...yes I have read most of thomas moore's books...my most favorite of all is his latest...a Life at Work. REALLY REALLY good stuff.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea.
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome idea! I am always having to dig through my "bowl" of letters...yea, not such an organized idea, I like yours way better! Now, to find one of those divided trays!
ReplyDeletePeace & Love,
~Barb~
Yes this is why I visit blogs, so i can learn new cool stuff. Thanx Teesha
ReplyDeletewhat a fab idea!!!!!! thanks...now i knw what to do when i HAVE to watch tv...hehhe
ReplyDeleteTeesha, I love this idea - so organized! It's the perfect project for me right now. I'm laid up for a couple of weeks after knee surgery and yet not feeling up to spending time in my studio, so I'll give it a shot. BTW, I sure will miss Art & Life...

ReplyDeleteSoooo great to see that you are posting more! Your work is so inspiring. Keep posting :)
What a great idea! I have all my letters in a big box and when I need one I have to hunt around for it. It takes way too much time.
ReplyDeleteI have managed to sort my postage stamps into categories but I think letters are next.
I would love to know where you got just the right divided box for this wonderful idea.
ReplyDeleteI think I got it at the container store.

ReplyDeleteThat's a brilliant idea. I am going to try to start doing this..because I am not very good at lettering and stuff, but like to have words on my atcs and such like. Keeping the letters separate is a great idea..will encourage me to mix and match font styles more adventurously and I will always be able to find that elusive missing letter when I need it.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a fantastic idea - I absolutely love it! Thanks so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteCoOL iDea!!
ReplyDeleteI have a gIAnt platic container full of gallon size baggies with all sorts of mag clippings. Seemed like a good idea at the time, but it's toO giAnormouS!

I agree this is a very useful idea! I'm just surprised it never occurred to my overly organized and OCD-typical mind.
ReplyDeleteAnd the most fortuitous thing? I just acquired such a tray and was wondering what to do with it...
I say it's creative insertion by our arty muses and goddesses. ^.^
OMG what a great idea ! I have resisted cutting out letters because I figured it would be too much effort to keep track of them and organized. Man I love your journal pages... VERY inspiring.
